Accelerated Math 2022 for Incoming 6th graders!

Parents,

This week I'm going to administer the algebra prognosis test on Thursday. Please reach out to me if you would like your child to take the test for the accelerated math program next year. There will be a few students that I'm going to recommend to take it. I'm also going to give the kiddos the opportunity to take if they would like(teacher, parent, and student recommendation).

  

3/21    P2 Character Strength: Love of Learning/Make-up week

           Maize & Blue Monday

           Fifth grade to the planetarium @ Upton 9:30 - 11:30

           Girls on the Run (group 1) begins @ 4pm in the gym

3/22    Girls on the Run (group 2) begins @ 4pm in the gym 

3/23    Late start day (9:20 arrival)

           First-grade musical rehearsal for student body @ 10 a.m.

           Art class @ 4pm in art room 

           GOTR (group 1) @ 4pm in the gym 

           First grade musical @ SJHS @ 7 pm

3/24    GOTR group 2 @ 4pm in the gym 

            Algebra Prognosis test

3/25    Characters Come Alive- dress like a book character

            Brown Bear Credit Union 8:20 - 8:45 a.m.

            Kindness Club meets @ lunch recess

Math- We're starting a new unit on Place Value and Decimal Operations.

5.5 Place Value Patterns and Decimal Operations

Unit Goals

• Students build from place value understanding in grade 4 to recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and  of what it represents in the place to its left. They use this place value understanding to round, compare, order, add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.

Section A Goals

• Compare, round and order decimals through the thousandths place based on the value of the digits in each place.
• Read, write, and represent decimals to the thousandths place, including in expanded form.

Section B Goals

• Add and subtract decimals to the hundredths using strategies based on place value
